Eduroam Network

What is eduroam?

eduroam (education roaming) is the secure, world-wide roaming access service developed for the international research and education community. Having started in Europe, eduroam has gained momentum throughout the research and education community and is now available in 72 territories. eduroam allows students, researchers and staff from participating institutions to obtain Internet connectivity across campus and when visiting other participating institutions directly using their mobile phone on by simply switching on their laptop.

eduroam is available both on and off campus, at over 6000 locations world-wide!

How can I eduroam?

You may configure more than one devices to connect to eduroam (Laptop, tablet, mobile phone etc.). To enable eduroam access, you must install the eduroam CAT tool, which is available here. Simply choose your Home institution (International Hellenic University), choose the Operating System that you are running (if the webpage doesn't automatically detect your OS) and download the approrpiate version of the tool.

Configuring Eduroam

By setting up the Eduroam network on your device, you effectively configure the connection settings for the on-campus IHU-WiFi network as well.

Instructions for most commoly used Operating Systems

Windows 7 Instructions

Execute the file eduroam-W7-IHU.exe and press Next.




At the pop-up window, press OK.




You will be asked to verify the server certificate. Press Yes.



Type in your IHU account credentials (the one you use for accessing the e-learn platform). The username field must be in the form username@ihu.edu.gr.




If the message below appears, press OK. This will initialise an additional installer:






At the end of the installation, the following message will appear. You are advised to reboot your computer to sucessfuly complete the setup.




Press Finish to complete the setup.






You may now connect to the eduroam Wi-Fi.

Windows 10 Instructions

Execute the file eduroam-W10-IHU.exe and press Next.






At the pop-up window, press OK.





You will be asked to verify the server certificate. Press Yes.





When the installation finishes, connect to the Eduroam network. When prompted, type in your IHU account credentials (the one you use for accessing the e-learn platform). The username field must be in the form username@ihu.edu.gr.



You may now connect to the eduroam Wi-Fi.






macOS Instructions

Execute the config file that you have downloaded from eduroam CAT. When prompted, press Continue





Type in your IHU credentials (the one you use for accessing the e-learn platform). The username field must be in the form username@ihu.edu.gr.





When installation is complete, you will see the following message:



You may now connect to the eduroam Wi-Fi.



iOS Instructions

Navigate to the web page http://cat.eduroam.org from your mobile device. Select your language, Country, institution and the iOS version of your device





Click the button "Download installer for your iOS version"





At the "Install Profile" screen, click "Install"





If prompted for installing the Root Certificate, click "Install Now"






Enter your username, appending the realm '@ihu.edu.gr' at the end







Type in your password







When installation is complete, you should see a screen with the profile details and a Green 'Verified' stamp.





Provided that you are within the vicinity of an eduroam Access Point, scan for available WiFi networs. You should see the SSID 'eduroam'





Click on the SSID 'eduroam'. Your device should attempt to connect.





You should now be connected to the eduroam network!





Android Users

You will need to download the eduroam CAT app from Google Play and execute the setup process using the app.

NOTE: It has been reported by Samsung users, that the eduroam CAT app may not return proper results while searching for "International Hellenic University". If this is the case uninstall the eduroam CAT tool and try to login manually to either the "IHU-WiFi" or the "eduroam" network. In the window that will open, use the settings shown below for "EAP method" and "Phase 2 authentication"
